Munroe Falls in Ohio is a small city on the northern border of Summit County. It is a part of the greater Cleveland area and has an estimated population of just under 13,000 people as of 2016. It is also the birthplace of Jerry Siegel, who created Superman. The town was founded in 1829 and named for Amos Munroe, who owned land near the falls along the Cuyahoga River, where he saw the potential to build mills. In 1870 it became a village with more than 700 inhabitants but by 1900 had only around 300 citizens remaining due to frequent flooding from heavy rains upstream that began eroding at its foundation. According to Wikipedia's "Munroe Falls History" page, a dam was built across this river, which prevented future floods from causing damage thanks to increased flood control measures taken after World War II ended in 1945; according to Wikipedia's "Munroe Falls History" page.
